DIN is a very visual musical instrument for your computer. It combines lots of different elements, like being able to play notes with you mouse and keyboard, or use different objects with their own behaviours, or draw waveforms, to construct sound. I think the best way to get an idea about it is to look at some videos on Youtube.
The source code is available, and there is a free 'evaluation' version too. Otherwise there's a USD$149 lifetime licence which unlocks saving and some plugins. See the FAQ for details. I believe the Linux and BSD versions are completely free, but you're asked to make a donation.
