Perhaps it's best framed as a customisable [[:Category:Fighting_Game|fighting game]]. You can play it as a regular game if you want, but a key feature is the ability to build/customise your own characters. The graphics and moves are all pre-built, but you can change their colours, and decide which moves you want to use, and how you want to activate them.
